New, interesting mobile services are on the way too. Much is being written about mobile positioning services like Foursquare and Gowalla at the moment. The first newspaper to test what you can do with local news and special offers on Foursquare is Metro in Canada.

There has been an enormous hype building up around the Apple e-reader, which is being described as a potential rescue for the newspaper, book and television industries, a replacement for all textbooks, and a new gaming platform... Apple is now making a lot of money from distribution, by being the middleman supplying digital content to consumers via iTunes and AppStore, and the company is planning to take this a step further with the e-reader. It can well be the start of a blurring of the boundaries between mobile phones, netbooks and e-readers. The price is $499 and it will be for sale in the US in March.

After Kindle's sales success, a lot of people are seeing e-readers as an opportunity to charge for digital content, and development is moving fast. Kindle has been launched in Denmark, media group Hearst has created its own e-reader and after months of speculation, Apple's e-reader is soon to be launched; it is being presented on the 27th January and will go on sale in the US in March. Expectations are high, and there are speculations that it will be able to show video.
